(DIO-26) KDS Digital Input/Output Option Overview

The Digital Input/Output Option for the K2600 series allows you to send up to 8 channels of digital audio both in and out of the K2600 from/to the DMTi, via Kurzweil's KDS stream, or even from/to another K2600 or K2500. The DMTi can then be connected to any other digital device, including a digital multitrack. The KDS jacks are added to the K2600 when the DIO is installed - one for Input and one for Output.

Audio coming into the Kurzweil via the DIO can be passed through any V.A.S.T. and KDFX processing and mixed, if desired, with audio generated by the Kurzweil itself. To use the KDS Input, you simply create a layer in a program which has its Sample Playback Mode set to one of the KDS Inputs. The signal is then passed through the V.A.S.T. algorithm for that layer and then sent on to KDFX. This allows you to use the K2600 as an incredibly powerful effects processor for vocals, guitars, or any other external sounds.

The DIO also allows you to send two channels of digital audio via coax (XLR) or optical jacks, in AES/EBU or SPDIF formats. The DIO can be installed in K2600s with or without the sampling option. (It should be noted that if you have the sampling option but do not have the DIO, then the signal coming out of the Digital Out has been converted from Digital to Analog, and then back to Digital. But with the addition of the DIO, the signal stays in Digital format without any conversions.)
