(VGM) Voice/GM Expansion Board Overview
The VGM Expansion Board turns the PC88 into a PC88MX. The board features three banks of Kurzweil quality sounds, including the General MIDI soundset, giving the PC88 complete GM compatibility. 32 voices of polyphony are added for a total of 64 voices. The VGM board also has its own independent effects processor, with all the same features as the effects processor already in the PC88. An additional 32 preset Setups are added, which utilize the programs from all banks.

(VGM) Voice/GM Expansion Board Features
- Max Polyphony: 32 on VGM board, for a total of 64.
- Internal Programs: 224 internal presets in 3 banks: 128 General MIDI programs; 77 Expansion Voices programs, including variations of the GM programs plus drums and percussion; In addition 19 64-Note Polyphonic programs are duplicated from Internal Voices Bank for creation of 64 voice Setups. These are added to the 64 programs originally in the PC88.
- Effects: Stereo digital multi-effects processor with 40 effects algorithms (reverb, chorus, delay) with real-time control via MIDI. This second processor works identically to the one already in the PC88
- MIDI Setups: 32 factory programmed MIDI setups, in addition to the 32 already in the PC88.
